The Society of Pilar Fathers won the 2nd Blessed Joseph Vaz Tournament for religious priests and seminarians organized by the John Paul II Foundation of Sports (Goa) in association with the St. Lawrence Parish and the Agassaim Youth Club.

The John Paul II Foundation of Sports (Goa) was founded to accompany the youth in their joyful present and hope-filled future, by being with them and strengthening them, focused on 3 points:

Formation: to learn to play sports and games and pray together.
Fellowship: to live as sports persons together and celebrate together.
Service: to work and build together the Church through the medium of sports and games.

Among its objectives they help children develop holistically to transform communities in India that they can be of influence through training and to promote mutual exchange of faith experience, talents in sports and games, creating an understanding among sports persons and non-sports persons to glorify God through participation in trainings, competitions and tournaments, coaching camps, adventure activities, etc

This tournament is not the foundation’s only annual tournament. It also organizes the All Goa Inter Orphanage Football Festival, the Inter College Freedom Cup (Beach Football) tournament at Miramar beach, and the All Goa Inter Deanery Archbishop Trophy Football tournament.

In fact the Foundation goes way beyond hosting tournaments too. It took the Goa Orphanage football team for matches in Hubli and even had an exhibition match during the Portuguese legend Luis Figo’s visit to Goa on 2012. Besides this, the foundation conducts International Sports Leadership Training for youth, and hosts football matches with inmates from the Aguada and Sada prisons.
